2015 was full of major milestones for CoFED. Let’s take a walk down memory lane with five highlights from the year.
1. Summer Institute Kickoff
Our first annual Summer Institute was a smashing success, with 8 teams convening in the Bay Area to learn how to develop and run their cooperative food businesses. We look forward to welcoming more teams back in 2016!
2. Oakland Running Festival
CoFED’s fabulous running team raised over $13,000 to fund Summer Institute! Afterward we celebrated with a BBQ.
Join us as a fundraiser-runner in March 2016!
3. 100% of presentations were equity-focused
Whether talking about coop fiscal accountability or how to facilitate fruitful discussions, the importance of working toward an equitable food business – one that is inclusive and serves the most food insecure members of the community- was included in every 2015 training.
Our Executive Director Farzana Serang created an Equity Toolkit with guiding questions to check how equitable your coop is, and strategies to become more equitable.
4. Building relationships with nearly 100 campuses
Tribal colleges, Quaker colleges, community colleges, and universities across the country interacted with CoFED and learned about the value of community-owned food.
5. We unrolled a NEW resource- the Cooperative Growth Curriculum!
This curriculum guide is the product of our Summer Institute training. Curated lessons and handouts to start-up or scale-up your food business are together in a convenient, flexible format for training both small and large groups.
You can purchase the Cooperative Growth Curriculum at CoFED’s new Store.
That's a wrap! THANK YOU to all of our supporters this year for enabling CoFED to forward the movement for true food justice with equity at the center. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our work.
Exciting announcements are coming in early 2016, so stay tuned!
Happy New Year!
