CoFED partners with young people of color from poor and working-class backgrounds to build food and land co-ops.

A Letter from Yoni Landau

CoFED family and friends, I am writing to you today to share some important news.

This October, it will be four years since the idea of CoFED was born. What a journey it’s been. We've traveled far from our small beginnings to now working with nearly 300 students on more than 30 campuses. Even more significantly, we've seen our students graduate to launch other national cooperative efforts and create coops in their communities. We’ve built a robust community and now we are growing it once again.

Last fall, we began searching for an Executive Director. Both our staff and board recognized the need to bring in a professional hand to manage the tremendous growth and increasing complexity of the organization. Today I am happy to announce we've found that person!

Farzana Serang was most recently at PolicyLink, one of the leading national advocacy organizations shaping a social and economic justice agenda for the country.  She’s worked with students at Berkeley City College and the University of California at Berkeley. She received her Masters in City Planning from MIT with a focus on community and economic development. During her studies she also worked with the Democracy CollaborativeMilk & Honey, and National Congress of American Indians

This fall as we welcome Farzana, I will be leaving to pursue full-time graduate studies. It has been my experience and learning at CoFED that inspired me to take this next step. I’m excited about the possibilities ahead and I look forward to watching CoFED’s continued growth.

As CoFED matures over the next several years, Farzana will have a challenging job but with the help of our stellar board and staff she will be dreaming big and guiding the organization to reach it's full potential!

I am thrilled to introduce her to you as CoFED’s Executive Director! Her intelligence, love for the work, and dedication to results has quickly given me a deep confidence in her, as I know it will do for you. But I'll let her speak for her self, watch the video to hear from Farzana about why she's excited to work with CoFED!

Thank you all for your continued and enthusiastic support of CoFED!

With love, Yoni
