Small-scale farming, resistance and food sovereignty

A conversation with Basque Farmers’ Union, EHNE - Bizkaia

Bay Area eaters, farmers and activists will have a unique opportunity to connect with the global food sovereignty movement September 25 at 7pm when Food First’s Food Sovereignty Tours (FST) hosts members of EHNE, the Basque Farmers’ Union.

Join us for a presentation by Basque leaders followed by discussion with local Bay Area invited farmers and activists about challenges to small-scale farming, movement building and resistance. Admission is Free. Donations Accepted.

EHNE, the Basque Farmer's Union, has been at the forefront of food sovereignty activism since its formation in 1976. A founding member of La Via Campesina, EHNE is made up of agricultural organizations from across the Basque Country. They help foster a vibrant local food system of small farmers and cooperative businesses and provides educational and economic support to over 6,000 members in addition to union representation. Because of their innovative work, EHNE was recently recognized as an honoree for the 2013 Food Sovereignty Prize!

The impact of EHNE’s work has been felt throughout the global food movement for decades, and FST is honored to host their visit this September!
