Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
The Real Food Cooperative is a group of students working to open a student-led food cart that will serve gourmet grab-n-go meals sourced from local farms in San Luis Obispo County. The Cooperative was formed by a group of students that were members of the Real Food Collaborative student club at Cal Poly SLO during the Winter Quarter of 2013. Members of the Cooperative are interested in opening a student run food co-op because it would give students experience in owning and running a restaurant while fulfilling the need for nourishing, affordable, environmentally sustainable and ethically produced food. Currently, they are hard at work developing and tweeking their menu and operations, as they serve lunch on their quad every Monday out of a wooden structure they built themselves. They prep all of this delicious food during their Educational Sunday Cooking Shift out of their campus' industrial food processing kitchen.
