CoFED inspiregizes future food co-op leaders across North America. We support students with training and tools, and connect them with peers, mentors, and allies in a solidarity network.

Early Bird Registration for NASCO Institute ends Thursday

Did you know that the 2013 NASCO Institute is themed "A Fire in Our Bellies: Food Justice and Cooperatives"?

Did you know that the NASCO Institute is a decades old gathering of coop-involved students from around the country, and that this year it's November 1-3 in Ann Arbor, Michigan?

Did you know that, this year, CoFED is a co-sponsor of this amazing event, and that three of our Regional Organizers will be leading a track of workshops?

Did you know that priority registration and scholarship applications end on Thursday 10/10? You can save $50 if you register now, plus you may be able to access a scholarship.

Did you know this is a really sweet poster?

I'm excited about the NASCO Institute as a time to learn from student co-opers who have been working in this movement for much longer than I have. NASCO is an organization specifically focused on housing cooperatives, which face different challenges than food cooperatives, but also have a lot in common. I look forward to getting to soak up their knowledge.

At the same time, the Institute has some space for CoFED to strut our stuff. I'll be working with Lauryl and Yahya to deliver a gamestormed workshop track helping students think about what a food coop could look like on their campus. This is a great opportunity for anyone thinking about starting up a coop to get a ton of great kick-starting material and a space to work through their process.

We're also working to bring together a mini-gathering of CoFED-affiliated students as a part of the NASCO Institute. We'll have some rockstars on our panel, like Sara Brody of the Second Kitchen. I'm looking forward to getting to meet the co-conveners from Earlham College's Rose City Coffee Cafe, and hoping some of the students from University of Minnesota at Morris can make it out to workshop their idea for a 24-hour student space housing a coop.

Are you interested in learning from veteran co-opers, meeting fellow CoFED folks, and sharing your vision at the NASCO Institute? Register here by Thursday 10/10 for a $50 discount. CoFED-affiliated folks get an additional $50 off! What are you waiting for!?
