Jon Berger

Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator, Real Food Challenge

Jon has been doing student - focused organizing since high school, around anti-war, environmental, economic justice, student power, and now food issues. He works full time for the Real Food Challenge now, doing those same sorts of things professionally.

He brings a focus in anti-oppression, facilitation, event planning, campaigning and curriculum. 


Sam Shain

Environmental Justice and Student Organizer

New Jersey

When she's not knitting, cooking or reading, Sam is dedicated to food justice, horizontal leadership development and team-building games. Call her in to help plan meals to feed your crew, mobilize resources on your campus, or develop realistic & achievable goals. She is especially interested in helping novice kitchen managers plan meals for convergences and helping folks wrangle together the details/vehicle rentals to get a group of students to an action camp. She has extensive experience with the Real Food Challenge, NASCO and Theatre of the Oppressed. She loves traveling, radical Judaism, big kitchens, the color yellow, Quakerism, yarn, facilitation, and her feet in soft soil.

She is excited to share with students her experience with anti-oppression and collective process, event planning, campaigning, and curriculum development.


Peter Frank

Organizational Development Coordinator, Mariposa Food Co-op 

Philadelphia, PA

Peter is on staff at Mariposa Food Co-op as the Organizational Development Coordinator. Mariposa Food Co-op is a collectively managed consumer cooperative in West Philly. He is also the co-founder of the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance, a cross-sector cooperative association whose members are co-ops in the Philadelphia region. PACA acts as a “chamber of commerce” for area cooperatives and is also starting a co-op development center. Peter has also been actively involved in the Kensington Community Food Co-op (startup), a board member of The Energy Co-op, volunteering for a start-up brewery co-op, and a member of PFCU.

He is interested in working with folks on Anti-Oppression and Collective Process, Cooperative Organizational Planning, and Strategic Planning.


Norman Weiss

Purchasing Manager, Weaver's Way Food Co-op

Philadelphia, PA

Norman joined Temple University co-op buying club in 1973, and became a staffer at Weavers Way Co-op in Philadelphia in 1974. He was a manager from 1975 - 1980, left for a brief bit, and returned in 1986 and have been a manager at Weaver's Way ever since, he is current title is Purchasing Manager. He knows about most parts and phases of running a retail food co-op including working member programs, and has access to the knowledge of many other at Weaver's Way.

He is interested in sharing about Cooperative Organizational Development, Planning, Legal Advice, Food Operations, and Money Management.
