CoFED inspiregizes future food co-op leaders across North America. We support students with training and tools, and connect them with peers, mentors, and allies in a solidarity network.

Cultivating Resistance: 30 Monthly Donors in 30 Days

Why should you give to CoFED this year?

In the past five years, CoFED has trained over 500 students on over 60 campuses, grown a community of 3,000 supporters, and supported the launch of 7 new campus food co-ops – that's hundreds of people who share the values of food sovereignty, sustainability, and social justice equipped to transform the food system.

We want – and need – to keep doing that because we believe that people, not politicians, have the power to build our country’s future. We continue on in this spirit, especially as the Trump presidency sinks in, and commit to doing whatever it takes to stand in solidarity with Native, immigrant, Latinx, Black, LGBTQ, women, Muslim and other communities targeted by hate and violence.

We need to stand in solidarity with each other and must recognize our interdependence. When you become a monthly donor for CoFED, you build the resilience of our grassroots community to catalyze student food co-ops!

CoFED is committed to educating young people about co-ops as a tool for collective liberation.

To cultivate resistance and strong, student-led communities, we must fight and win on three fronts in 2017 and the years to come:

  1. Take care of each other. Our co-ops and communities must address ongoing systemic oppression against communities targeted by hate and violence. Remember, cooperatives are not just an end - they have been tools for community empowerment and self-determination for centuries.

  2. Respect the leadership of people of color. We are launching a new
CoFED Fellowship for young folx of color to advance racial + food justice in their communities.

  3. Learn! All of us have more to learn. To help students continue learning after our Summer Co-op Academy, the CoFED Co-op Cultivators Internship is being designed by students for students, and will bring cooperative business development curriculum to higher education.

Will you join us now as a monthly donor to help us launch our new fellowship and internship, and meet the challenges ahead?

If you give in the next 30 days, the Germanacos Foundation will double your one-time donation and match your monthly donation pledged for 2017, up to $10,000 total.
